Your Golf Club Shaft "The Little Engine That Could"
Both in my car and in my golf club shaft I don't want an engine that under-performs. I want to enjoy all the power and performance I can control. While I never would put up with any car engine that didn't perform, I assumed everything wrong with my golf game was my fault, after all I was playing with some of the best clubs available (read expensive). I personally struggled for years. Buying off the rack, thinking that I knew what I needed, letting ego get in my way (two flexes too strong). More on this at the end. The shaft is the most important part of your club - it IS the engine - and if your game is suffering maybe it's your engine that needs tuning. Will you gain distance? Probably, but what is more important is CONTROL, you are in charge. How much you improve is up to you, but I will tell you this - your golf game only suffers when you play with a shaft that's not right for you. Now when I play I don't second guess my swing and I go for it. I am not saying that it's a silver bullet, magic wand, etc. - you still have to practice with a purpose! So go to a professional fitter that understands and has a working knowledge of the characteristics of graphite shafts, steel shafts (lead/lag, toe up/toe down). To help you play to your potential and achieve quicker results, it pays to play the right golf club shaft. Oh yeah, what happened when I was finally fitted for the proper shafts for my swing? On the first time out, with my new shafts, in my OEM heads - my first "ACE". Coincidence - you decide.
